The Aquatomics, one of the oldest USA Swimming Teams in New Mexico, promotes both Age-Group (USA Swimming) and Masters (USMS) swimming. Formed in 1963, LAA is a cooperative non-profit organization run by a volunteer parent board employing a professional full-time coach. We welcome swimmers of all ages and abilities to join our team. The current membership is strong and our coaching is fantastic!
We train at the
Larry R. Walkup Aquatic Center, a world class high altitude Olympic
size pool in Los Alamos, New Mexico. The elevation at the pool is 7,227 feet, one
of the highest altitude indoor Olympic pools in the world. Each year teams from all over
the world come and train at our facility. Come and see for yourself what a difference
high altitude training can make!

FAT: TO EAT OR NOT TO EAT Did you know that fat is an essential part of nutrition for the growing athlete? Not only is fat required for normal growth and development, it is an instrumental energy source for exercising children and teens. During exercise, fat is processed (or metabolized) more efficiently than carbohydrate when compared to adults. By mid- to late adolescence, adult patterns of fat metabolism emerge. While children rely more on fat as an energy source during exercise, there is no evidence that increasing fat in the diet has benefits. A COMPTON COACH SPEAKS OUT, PART 2 A few weeks ago, I received an email from a swimming coach in Compton, California named Louis Pecot. His complaint as a coach for over 30+ years in the area was that, despite earlier claims from someone featured on this website, there was swimming in Compton at least when he was growing up. I interviewed him about his background growing up in South Central LA, as well as future challenges he foresees in the area. Here is Part Two of our interview. More swimming news... |
